The Notorious B.I.G., the legendary rapper who was killed in 1997, will live on in the Ethereum metaverse game The Sandbox. The game developer Animoca Brands has partnered with the Wallace Estate, which represents the late artist’s family, to create a virtual world dedicated to his legacy and music.
The Sandbox is a decentralized gaming platform that features NFTs and allows users to own their voxel-based 3D worlds and assets.
It uses the SAND token, an ERC-20 utility token that is used for transactions, governance, and staking in the ecosystem.
The Brooklyn, New York-inspired area in The Sandbox pays homage to the late rapper, born Christoper Wallace, who rose to fame in the 1990s before his death in 1997.
The Sandbox B.I.G. experience, dubbed “Breakin’ B.I.G.,” allows players to meet the rapper’s non-playable avatar likeness in a “2D, arcade-style world” and navigate various quests as an up-and-coming rap star, according to the announcement.
The Wallace Estate will have its own LAND, a piece of digital real estate in The Sandbox, where it will build a virtual museum and an interactive gaming experience inspired by The Notorious B.I.G.’s life and music.
The estate will also create and sell NFTs based on the rapper’s iconic albums, songs, and images, such as Ready to Die, Life After Death, and Juicy.
The partnership between Animoca Brands and the Wallace Estate is part of a larger initiative to bring more mainstream artists and brands into the crypto space and the metaverse.
The Sandbox has already secured partnerships with other prominent names, such as Atari, Care Bears, Deadmau5, and Shaun the Sheep.
The Notorious B.I.G. is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time, and his influence and impact on the hip-hop industry and culture are undeniable.
By immortalizing him in the game, The Sandbox hopes to honor his legacy and introduce him to a new generation of fans and creators.
Notorious B.I.G.’s likeness joins celebrities like Elvis Presley, Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, and Steve Aoki, all of whom have either built experiences or added their likenesses to the game.
